Geechee Caribbean Language Project (GCLP)

Gullah Geechee is an English based creole language that was developed by enslaved Africans living in coastal regions of South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida.Geechee is a variation of the Gullah language. Gullah is mainly spoken on the islands by elders and is on the verge of extinction because it is no longer being passed on to the next generation. Within short 8 months of creating Geechee Experience, we have reached over 1 million people with our social media videos highlighting Geechee language(culture). During our journey, we've discovered a linguistic connection with Caribbean cultures such as Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaicans, Turks and Caicos and much more. We plan on continuing the work of Lorenzo Dow Turner (Father of Gullah Studies) by documenting our language and researching our linguistic connections between other cultures.
